Doing as regular detox is like taking an internal shower. There are numerous benefits and with our world growing increasingly toxic, the question is not if you should do a detox; it's when.
I have written 10 signs below that Now is the time for your Detox:
1. You have digestive issues.
This is one of the most obvious signs that you need a complete change of diet and a detox is a very effective way giving your diet an overhaul. Constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, and gas are not only uncomfortable; they are also a sign something is not right with your diet and digestion. A detox is like a reset bottom and is a great way to kick start a change in lifestyle, and improve your digestion.
2. You crave sugar often.
Regular cravings for sugar is a very clear sign that your healthy balance is off. A diet filled with processed foods can put your blood sugar and leptin hormones on a roller-coaster ride leaving you craving for more of the same. Doing a detox and focusing on whole, clean food sources will get your hormones back on track and will provide your body with the nutrients that are currently lacking.
3. Your skin is not clear.
Toxin and chemical build up, lack of enough water can cause problem skin and dull looking complexion. An overload of toxins can cause an overload to your liver, your main detoxifying organ. Since your skin is also responsible for eliminating waste through sweat, all those problems can creep up to the surface in the form of acne, rashes, and inflammation.
4. You eat healthy but don't feel healthy.
Although you might be maintaining a clean diet it still is a very good idea to have a detox with changing seasons. Doing a detox a minimum of 2 times a year will really make a difference to your health and energy levels. Also, eliminating foods such as bread, dairy and alcohol will give your digestion a rest and boost energy levels. Detoxing can also fuel your body with powerful superfoods and nutrients boosting your energy and help eliminate harmful toxins that build up over time and can contribute to health problems.
5. You are constantly lacking energy.
If you lack energy over a long time, this can be a symptom to a more serious problem such as adrenal fatigue. This occurs when you have increased levels of cortisol as your brain and adrenal glands are not communicating well, caused by too many toxins, stress, inflammation, poor eating habits etc.
6. You are not concentrating and feel foggy.
If you lack the ability to focus or struggle to remember various details on a regular basis, you're dealing with brain fog. When your body can’t eliminate toxins fast enough, they build up in your body and increase inflammation. Too much inflammation damages your protective blood-brain barrier and leads to "leaky brain syndrome." A detox can start to flush out toxins to relieve the inflammatory oxidative stress in the hypothalamus of the brain so you can finally start thinking more clearly.
7. You are struggling with your weight.
If you are struggling to lose those extra pounds, a healthy, nutrient rich detox is perfect. You will benefit from extra energy, clear skin and with a 7-day detox it is quite realistic to loose between 5-8 pounds. It is also the perfect way to kick-start a change in lifestyle that you can continue after the detox leading to a healthier you.
8. Your hormones are not in a health balance.
Adrenal fatigue, low sex drive, menstrual disorders, and weight-loss resistance can all be connected to problems with hormones. And each of these hormonal issues can be traced back to chronic inflammation, which can be due to toxins and other inflammatory foods in your diet.
9. You are feeling depressed and anxious.
Lingering feelings of depression and anxiety can stem from inflammation and an imbalance in hormones. Brain Fog (see other blog) can cause problems by triggering an inflammatory-autoimmune response against your brain and nervous tissue. When you start to decrease inflammation by cutting things out of your diet you may find that you start to feel a sense of calm. Also when you are on a detox we recommend to slow down a bit and do some more exercise. All good for mental stability and health.
10. You are experiencing regular joint pain.
Chronic ongoing inflammation can cause problems and pains for your muscles and joints. If you feel you are constantly sore, stiff, and achy—especially if you aren’t pushing yourself at the gym—it is probably due to internal inflammation.
If you answered yes to more than one of these, it's time to do something about it!
