Healthy Happy Halloween

Halloween celebrations are becoming more prevalent across the globe, usually associated with dressing up and trick or treating.

It also signifies the beginning of the holiday season and that can mean the beginning of overindulgence. Although we don’t always think healthy, and Halloween can go together these healthier Halloween treats can help.

Beetroot cookies

These bloody cookies make a scary treat, and the benefit is that they are gluten free and contain lots of beetroot to offset some of the sugars that are consumed.

You will need:

  • 3 cups ground oats
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup melted dark
  • 1 cup beet puree, (roast beetroots and blend)
  • 1/3 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1 pack ready-made icing
  • 1 sachet Britt’s Superfoods Beetroot & Maqui juice

Instructions:

Line a baking tray with parchment paper and pre heat the oven to 180 degrees.

Mix the oats, baking powder, salt and brown sugar then add in the eggs melted chocolate and beetroot puree. Form into circles and bake for 12 minutes.

When cool decorate with icing bandages and eyes ( round circles of icing with black food colouring) and drizzle beetroot juice over for blood effect.

Draculas Bloody Beetroot Soup

Complete with olive spiders and toast fangs this healthy soup couldn't be easier of more effective.

To make 2 big bowls or 4 smaller ones you will need:

  • 8 medium beetroot
  • 1 sachet Britt's Superfoods Beetroot & Maqui juice
  • 1 litre vegetables stock
  • 50g chia seeds
  • 4 small shallots
  • 2 garlic bulbs

Instructions:

Chop and fry onion and garlic and add cooked beetroot and stock. Allow to simmer for a few minutes and add chia seeds. Once warm add to blender and puree and add Britt's Superfoods Beetroot & Maqui juice.

Graveyard dip

This fun dip is as healthy as it is gruesome.

You will need:

  • 1 Avocado
  • 1 Sachet Britts Superfoods wheatgrass juice
  • 1 tin re-fried beans
  • Big tortilla to cut into shape
  • Edible ink

Instructions:

Simply warm and mash the re fried beans to make the earth and then place on top the avocado and wheatgrass that has been mashed together.

Cut out the shapes you want for the dippers and lightly toast, you can then write your spooky message on them and place in the dip.

Great fun, healthy and tasty, what more could you ask for.

Healthy Halloween Mocktail

This spooky treat is delicious and healthy.
You need:
I mango
1/2 banana
1 cup apple juice
1 sachet Britt's Superfoods ginger, turmeric and apple juice

Blitz it all together and decorate with sugar sprinkles and adda healthy treat to halloween.

Halloween Pizza


These thin crust pizzas are healthy as you decide which toppings to add the dough is really thin and crispy and easy to make!

You will need:

  •  500g mixed white and wholemeal flour
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 11 floz water, a dash of olive oil and a teaspoon of salt.

The secret to this recipe is the kneading once you have mixed your dough ingredients together you knead for 8 mins. Cover with a damp tea towel and leave for an hour.

We added Halloween toppings, mozzarella ghosts, olive spiders and tomato puree blood, what can you think of?

Apple Doughnuts

Looking for a healthy snack for the kids for this halloween one that's fun, healthy and encourages participation?

You will need:
  • Apples
  • Apple corer
  • Peanut butter
  • Cream cheese
  • Yoghurt
  • Chopped fruit (we used blueberries and grapes)
  • Dark chocolate chips.

Instructions:
Start by coring the apples and slicing them into rings. This will leave you with a doughnut looking shape.

Then ask the children to add their favourite toppings, peanut butter, cream cheese or whatever else they like. They can then scatter the fruit and nuts to make their apple rings look like doughnuts.
